Hey guys today we will discuss Twixtor feature of After effects software. As we know After Effects is video graphics editing software which is used by many graphics editor for their professional works so let us now discuss this editing technique of After Effects in which we use Twixtor plugin for adding slow motion in our video footage. Today i will tell you about Twixtor and also give you knowledge about how to handle its parameter for getting good result for slow motion effect in your video footage.
But before starting our discussion on Twixtor feature of After Effects Software, i think we should know each and every point about After Effects software because after going through major content of After Effects, handling of this software throughout our article became easy task for us. What is After Effects software?

After Effects is mainly used for Motion Graphics work by graphics professional but it has wide range of working area some of them are we can make video editing, we can animate object or any logos in this software, we can manipulate any video footage as well in this software. You can use this software as additional software with some other graphics designing software as per your requirement.

System Requirement of After Effects Software:

After Effects software was developed by Adobe Inc. in January 1993 as video editing software and today it is a part of Creative Cloud desktop application of Adobe systems. This software is compatible with Windows 10, Mac OS and their later versions. If you want this software on your laptop or on personal computer or on tablet you need these system requirements which are as follows:

For Windows

• Processor required: Multi-core Intel Processor (64 bit)
• Operating system required: Microsoft Windows 10 (64 bit) and its later versions
• RAM required: 16 GB minimum required (32 GB recommended)
• Hard disk Space required: 5 GB required (Additional free space required during installation of  software)
• Monitor resolution required: 1280 X 1080 or greater

For Mac OS

• Processor required: Multi-core Intel Processor (64 bit)
• Operating system required: mac OS 10.13 and its later versions
• RAM required: 16 GB minimum required (32 GB recommended)
• Hard disk Space required: 6 GB required (Additional free space required during installation of  software)
• Monitor resolution required: 1440 X 900 or greater

Internet connection required for both for different purposes such as for activation key, for updating the software and many others.

Which type of file format supported by After Effects?

We have number of file format that are supported by After Effects but i will tell you some important file format here in this article for your knowledge. These file format are as follows:

Audio File Formats

MPEG (Moving Picture Expert Group) formats such as MPEG, MPG, MPE, MPA,M2V, MP2, M2A, M4A, M2T, M2P, MPV, VOB, MOD, AC3, MP4, M4A, M4A.

AIF/AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format): it can be import and export both.

WAV (Waveform) it can also be import and export both.

Image File Formats:

• Al, PS, EPS (adobe illustrator): these can import only in this software.
• PDF (Portable Document Format): It can import only.
• PSD (adobe Photoshop): it can both import and export in this software.
• BMP, DIB, RLE (Bitmap): It can import only in this software.
• JPEG/JPG (Joint Photographic Expert Group): It can both import and export in this software.
• PNG (Portable Network Graphics): It can import and export both in this software.
• TIFF/TIF (Tagged Image File Format): It can both import and export in this software.

These are some file format that supported in this software on Audio file format and Image file format basis.

Now let us move to our main topic of this article that is Split clip in After Effect.

How to Twixtor in After Effects?

In After Effects software Twixtor is one of the type of plugin software which is used for creating slow motion effect in any particular section of video footage through its exciting features and parameters. We will discuss Twixtor in this software with an example of video footage having slow motion by using parameters of twixtor plugin.

But before learning about Split clip i think you should get introduce with the User interface of this software. By User Interface i mean sections of working screen of this software so that you can easily understand the area of this software which will be involve in our learning. So let us have a look on those sections.

At the top of the user screen you will find two ribbons you can call first one as Menu bar and second one as Tool bar next move to below these two ribbons. There the screen is divided into three sections in which the left one is Project Panel with Effects Control panel, middle one is Composition window, and right one is Parameter tab section. Moving to next area of this software which is bottom end there are two other sections that are Layer section at left and at right there is Timeline frame panel. You can make your own working screen as per your requirement by changing the place of these sections.

For our learning let us have a video footage. I have downloaded it from internet, you can have your own one for our learning or you can also download it from any website. Now for placing this video footage in this software open particular folder of your personal computer and then pick that footage with mouse button from there and leave it in Project panel area of this software like this.

Now you can see your footage parameters showing in Project panel of this software. Now let us drag it in Layer panel of this software with mouse button, just pick it from Project panel and leave it in Layer section like this.

Now make right click on the Composition for Composition settings box. A popup list will be open, choose Composition Settings option from here.

Here in composition settings box you can see our video footage is of 10 sec. Increase time of video footage according to how much slow motion you want to add in this video footage. 

I will make it as 30 sec by entering 30 value in Duration box of this composition settings popup window.

Now go to layer section and select video footage layer by click on it then make right click with mouse on this layer. A popup list will be open, go to 'Time option of this list and click on 'Enable Time Remapping' option of new popup list.

Once you make click on this option a key frame of time Remap will be come in the timeline section of video footage layer like this.

Now drag play bar up to last frame by dragging it with mouse button

Now place the time indicator play head of timeline section at your desired place from where you want to start slow motion in your video footage.

Now go to Parameter section of this software at the left of composition window and click on Effects & Presets tab of this sections then search for Twixtor in search box of this tab.

Now make double click with mouse button on Twixtor option of this tab. Once you make click a parameter box of Twixtor will come in Effects control panel of this software which is next to Project panel section at the left side of composition window.

Now go to Project panel and check frame rate of this video footage from parameters of this video footage. Here the frame rate of this video footage is 21.150 fps.

Now come to Effect controls panel and enter value of Frame rate as 21.15 here in Frame Rate option of Twixtor.

Now make Motion Sensitivity value as 100.

Now click on stop watch icon of Speed option of Twixtor parameter for adding key in it. Once you make click on it key frame will be open in timeline section.

Now go to Parameter sections of this software and click on Preview tab of this section. Now click on 'Next Frame' button of this tab for going to next frame in timeline section of Speed option of Twixtor.

Now make the value of speed as 4% . This value define rate of slow motion. You can take it according to you.

Now place the time indicator play head at the frame in timeline section where you want to end slow motion of your video footage.

Now click on diamond icon of key frame of Speed option for adding key at this frame.

Now again go to Preview tab of Parameters section and click on Next Frame button for going one frame forward in timeline section of Speed option.

Now add value of speed back to 100% at this point.

Now you can play this video and you will see that slow motion is add in your video footage at your selected section of frame. You can play it by pressing spacebar or by pressing play button of Preview tab.

This is a shortest way through which you can add slow motion in your video footage and use it for making good project in After Effects.
