Internet connection required for both for different purposes such as for activation key, for updating the software and many others.

Which type of file format supported by After Effects?

We have number of file format that are supported by After Effects but i will tell you some important file format here in this article for your knowledge. These file format are as follows:

Audio File Formats

MPEG (Moving Picture Expert Group) formats such as MPEG, MPG, MPE, MPA,M2V, MP2, M2A, M4A, M2T, M2P, MPV, VOB, MOD, AC3, MP4, M4A, M4A.

AIF/AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format): it can be import and export both.

WAV (Waveform) it can also be import and export both.

Image File Formats:

• Al, PS, EPS (adobe illustrator): these can import only in this software.
• PDF (Portable Document Format): It can import only.
• PSD (adobe Photoshop): it can both import and export in this software.
• BMP, DIB, RLE (Bitmap): It can import only in this software.
• JPEG/JPG (Joint Photographic Expert Group): It can both import and export in this software.
• PNG (Portable Network Graphics): It can import and export both in this software.
• TIFF/TIF (Tagged Image File Format): It can both import and export in this software.

These are some file format that supported in this software on Audio file format and Image file format basis.

How to do Split Clip in After Effects?

Split Clip is a method through which you can break any video footage into many part according to your desired point of time or from desired point of frame of video footage and make a clip with that and joins them for making your desired video clips. We will discuss split clip in this article in few simple steps by using an example for our learning. We will also learn about handling of the parameters of split clip feature of After Effect so that we can get best result by this feature.

But before learning about Split clip i think you should get introduce with the User interface of this software. By User Interface i mean sections of working screen of this software so that you can easily understand the area of this software which will be involve in our learning. So let us have a look on those sections.

At the top of the user screen you will find two ribbons you can call first one as Menu bar and second one as Tool bar next move to below these two ribbons. There the screen is divided into three sections in which the left one is Project Panel with Effects Control panel, middle one is Composition window, and right one is Parameter tab section. Moving to next area of this software which is bottom end there are two other sections that are Layer section at left and at right there is Timeline frame panel. You can make your own working screen as per your requirement by changing the place of these sections.

Now let us have a Composition for learning about split clip feature of After Effects software. For a 'New Composition' go to Composition sub menu of Menu bar ribbon which is at above the tool bar of this software.

Or you can click on this small icon of 'Create a new Composition' tab which is at the bottom end of Project panel of After Effects software.

Or you can make right click of mouse button in the area of Project panel of After effects software. Once you make right click of mouse button a popup list will be open. Choose 'New Composition' option from this popup list.

Once you done then a Composition Settings popup box will open like this. You can name your composition here and can also make other settings here in this box as per your  project requirement. 

Now let us have a video footage for learning about split clip in this software. For a video footage, you can download it from internet if you want to learn or you can take any other video footage made by you. I was downloaded a video footage from https://www.pexels.com/videos. You can go with any others.

Now place this video footage in Project panel of After Effects. For placing it open that folder where it is saved and then simple use pick and drop method for placing it with mouse button like this.

Now let us move this video footage from Project panel to Layer panel of After Effects software. For moving it from Project to Layer panel, pick this video footage with mouse button and drag up to Layer panel like this.

Once you place it in Layer section, adjust the size of this video footage according to your composition window for seeing it properly from this list. I will use 50% value of display of this video footage for proper display of this footage
.

Now place the key frame play head at that frame or time from where you want to cut or split your video footage.

Now press Ctrl + Shift + D button of keyboard for using split command on this video footage. Once you press this short cut command, your video footage will break like this in the timeline key frame section.

Now again place the key frame play head at some frame forward and gain press Ctrl + Shift + D buttons of key board for again applying split command on this video footage.

 Once you press this short cut command of split it will again split like this.

Now select that part which you want to delete from your video footage by click on it and press Delete button of keyboard for deleting it from video footage.

Now you can see your there is nothing at deleted part of footage.

Now for joining split clips of this video footage. Select that part which you want to join and drag it up to that part to which you want to join it.

Now when you play this video footage by pressing spacebar of keyboard or pressing play button of  Preview tab of this software which is at the above of timeline section in right side, you can see the footage only have your selected part.

This is a way through which you can use split clip feature of After Effects for editing video footage.
