As we know guys Auto Cad is computer aided designing software which is most popular among engineering designing professionals. Auto Cad offers us many type of command for handling parameters of drawing in it. Chamfer is one of those commands. Let us discuss 'what is chamfer in Auto Cad?

What is Chamfer in Auto Cad?

Chamfer is a command by which you can add inclination at the corner of two adjacent side of any 2d shape in Auto Cad. We have different types of methods for applying chamfer on any 2d shape in Auto Cad. So let us discus these methods one by one.

How to do chamfer in Auto Cad?

We can make chamfer in any 2d shape very easily, we just have to follow some simple steps. So for using Chamfer command in Auto Cad we have two methods that are by entering Distance of chamfer from chamfering side of chamfering corner and by entering Angle of chamfer from first side of chamfering corner of that 2d shape. So first we will discuss Distance.

Before going through this method let us have a quickly review on the User Interface of this software so that handling of this software become easy for us. Starting from top here we have different Menus such as Home menu, Insert Menu, Annotation menu and some others, each of them helps us for managing of command and tool of this software, move to next section that is display window which is at the middle of this software, in this window you can see your drawn object of any drawing or whatever you draw in this software that will be display on it, if we talk about button end of this software then there are many option of navigation which helps us in handling of parameters during our working in this software.

Now let us move to our command. First of all draw a rectangle by using rectangle command of Draw tab of Home menu of this software for applying chamfer command on it.

Now take Chamfer command from Modify tab of Home menu of this software or you can type CHA from keyboard then press enter key.

Now you can see there is two methods of chamfer command in option box of chamfer command at the bottom of the display window of this software. There are some other options in this list which we will discuss later.

Now press D button for distance then press enter key.

Now a message will show which ask you to enter the value of distance of chamfer from first side of chamfering corner. Let i will give it as 2. You can take any value according to you. Now again press enter key.




Once you press enter key command will again show you a message which will ask you to enter the value of distance of chamfer from the second side of chamfering corner. Let i will give it as 2. You can change it according to  you. Now press enter key.

Now command ask you to select the first side so click on the one of the side of chamfering corner then click on the second side of chamfering corner like this.

Now press enter key. Once you make enter it will chamfer your object like this.

Now let us discuss second method of chamfering in Auto Cad software. The second method is Angle so for it again take chamfer command then press A button of keyboard then press enter key.

Now command will show you a message which will ask you to give the value of length of chamfer. I will give it as 3 then press enter key.

Now command will again show you a message which will ask you to give the angle of chamfer from the first side of chamfering corner. I will take it as 60 degree. You can take it as per your choice. Now press enter key.

Now command will ask you to select the first side then select second side, the command will chamfer your corner at 60 degree like this.

You can check the dimension from the Angular dimension option of Annotation tab of Home menu. Click on Angular dimension option.




Then select first line and then click on chamfer length. It will show you angle of chamfer.

Now let us discuss the other option of this command which are Trim or No Trim, Polyline and Multiply.

First we discuss Trim or No Trim. For this let us again make a rectangle and take chamfer command. Then go with any one of the chamfering methods, i will go with distance method and repeat steps of it that are press D then enter key then i will give distance value of chamfer from each side then press enter key. Now press T button of keyboard then press enter key.

Command will ask you would you want to use trim method or no trim method. Right now i will click on No Trim option then press enter key. Now let us find what will happen with No Trim option .

Now select first side then second side of chamfering corner. It will chamfer like this that means edge will not remove when you chamfer corner with No Trim option. So if you don't want edge at corner then select Trim option of this command.

Now let us discuss Polyline option. For Polyline option gain go to chamfer command for having it then use steps of Distance method of this command then after entering the value of distance of side for chamfer press P button of keyboard then press enter key.

Now select the any one of the side of rectangle. You can see command will chamfer all corner of this rectangle in single click. So with this Polyline option you can chamfer all corner in one command.

Our next option is Multiple. With this option of chamfer command you can chamfer many corner of different object one by one just in assigning one chamfer command.

So for this option again take chamfer command and use steps of Distance method of this command then after entering the value of distance of chamfer from sides of chamfering corner press M button of keyboard then press enter key.

Once you press enter key command will ask you to select the sides. Select sides of corners same as we did in Distance method. Here you are free for making chamfer of many corner with this single command.
